Hi, Neighbor!

Date:

Just when you feel like it’s the dead of winter and there’s nothing to look forward to, you realize: next week is Say Hi to Your Neighbors week in Waltham! For the uninitiated, Say Hi to Your Neighbors Week, now in its 3rd year, is comprised of events across our home city of Waltham encouraging community members to meet new neighbors and build relationships with those we haven’t seen in a while. We believe that connecting with neighbors can break down the isolation that people might feel when experiencing violence at the hands of their controlling partners.

The week is jam-packed with fun events, here are just a few:

On Monday, March 3rd – you can get 50% off your meal at In a Pickle Restaurant when you sit at the “community table” and get to know someone new between 10am and 3pm.

On Tuesday March 4th – look for us at the train station if you commute to and from Waltham, we’ll be handing out free coffee!

On Thursday March 6th – if you follow the Waltham scene on social media, come on out to Shoppers Café at 5:30 and put some faces with the usernames.

On Saturday March 8th – we’re capping everything off with a Scavenger Hunt, from 11am – 1pm, starting at Watch City Brewery and heading up and down Moody Street. Register with a team or by yourself and we will match you up with a group. We’ll wind up back at Watch City for some fabulous prizes.

In addition to these activities planned by REACH, you and your neighbors can plan events to get to know one another. Some ideas include a dinner party, game night, movie night, having a block party, or just inviting someone over for coffee. These connections could someday give someone the strength to reach out for support, and may give you the helping hand you need someday too. And the spirit of Say Hi Week is not just limited to Waltham. If you live in another city and are organizing events to get to know your neighbors, tell us about it in the comments below or talk to us on social media.
